Maybank says that its Maybank2u Internet banking platform will cease support for older versions of Internet browsers, with users now being required to update to a minimum version before being able to access its services.

In an announcement posted on the Maybank2u website on Aug 18, the bank outlined the minimum browser versions required for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Safari as below:

  • Google Chrome version 52 and above
  • Microsoft Edge version 80 and above
  • Mozilla Firefox version 52 and above
  • Opera version 39 and above
  • Safari version 11.1 and above

For context, a user would have to be missing multiple years' worth of updates for all the listed browsers to no longer be supported by Maybank2u, with Google Chrome version 52 having come out back in 2016.

Currently, Google Chrome version 116 is the latest release.

According to Maybank, the updated browser requirements were added to allow for a faster and safer online banking experience.

Later versions of browsers come with security patches that are added as vulnerabilities are discovered and help enhance protection against cyberattacks.

Maybank also stated in its announcement that users who are unable to update their browsers should instead opt to use the MAE app for their Internet banking needs.
