A member of the Kelantan state executive council has reached out to help a woman after her complaint on the lack of clean water supply in her area was highlighted by a YouTuber and his wife.
According to a report in mStar, the woman identified as Nor Idayu Supian said Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) sent a water tanker to her home in Pasir Mas on Saturday (Aug 5).
Nor Idayu shared that she had initially posted about her water woes on a group in Facebook on Aug 4.
Kelantan exco for Islamic Development, Da'wah, Information and Social Relations Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Haji Daud then contacted Nor Idayu personally after her posting went viral.
Nor Idayu told mStar that Mohd Nassuruddin also sent a representative to visit her home to check on the water supply.
She said, however, that only her home received the water supply on Aug 5 as she was the only one who had made a complaint. Another 15 homes in the area did not receive the same treatment.
She added that AKSB has conducted an investigation and found that the lack of water supply was due to low water pressure in her housing area.
In her viral posting, Nor Idayu said because of the lack of clean water supply, she had to resort to taking water from a mosque about four kilometers away from her home.
She also claimed that the issue has been ongoing for six months.
Her posting was picked up by Anissa Faizul, the wife of YouTuber Syahmi Sazli who has over 2.7 million subscribers on his channel. Anissa said in her posting that she sympathised with Idayu’s plight.
After some netizens criticised Anissa’s statement for seemingly reprimanding the state government, Syahmi came forward to defend his wife in a video on Facebook and said that it’s important to pay attention to basic needs like water for the people.
He also denied that his wife was making a political statement and urged netizens to understand that she was speaking up on behalf of Nor Idayu.
Nor Idayu, who is a home-based baker, said that Syahmi and Anissa also came to her aid by supplying her family with a water filter worth RM2,798 yesterday (Aug 7).
