Unlocking an iPhone in a public place during the pandemic typically meant having to take off your face mask so that Face ID can work. But Apple has now released an update for iPhone users that promises to remove one common everyday hassle.
As of the latest version of the iPhone's operating system, the phone's cameras are now able to identify your face and unlock the phone even when you have a mask on.
The same goes for when you need to confirm your identity for Apple Pay and password autofill. The update only applies to people with an iPhone 12 and newer phones, however.
At the same time, users in the EU can now also see their coronavirus vaccination certificate, test results and proof of immunity in Apple Wallet, alongside vouchers, tickets, boarding passes and so on.
You simply scan the QR code with your camera and then select "Add to Wallet and Health". The update also brings new emojis such as faces, hand gestures and household objects to iPhones and iPads.
Those who want to share screen and media content with others using Shareplay no longer have to open the Facetime chat app first, but can start such sessions directly from the respective app.
If you have not yet seen a prompt to update to iOS version 15.4, then connect your iPhone or iPad to the charger, make sure wi-fi is connected, go to "Settings/General/Software update" and then tap on "Download and install". – dpa
