PETALING JAYA: Local telcos will be offering their customers free calls to all networks in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, according to Communications and Multimedia minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

In a statement, Saifuddin said the free call period starts tonight (May 12) at 10pm till 10am the next day (May 13), which is the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The minister added that he hopes the free calls period can help Malaysians stay connected with loved ones to some extent, despite restrictions on activities under the movement control order (MCO) starting from May 12 to June 7.

Telcos offering the free call period on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri are Celcom, Digi, Maxis, Redtone, Telekom Malaysia, Time dotcom, Tune Talk, U Mobile, Yoodo and YTL.

Saifuddin also said that the free calls period is subject to terms and conditions. Users are thus advised to contact their telco service providers for details on the offer.

According to Celcom Axiata chief executive officer Idham Nawawi, all postpaid and prepaid Celcom customers can enjoy free unlimited voice calls to all local networks.

“In addition, Celcom customers can stay connected with loved ones this Hari Raya Aidilfitri via video calls through the ongoing free 1GB daily Internet provision (30GB per month),” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile Maxis in an FAQ said the offer is open to all Maxis and Hotlink subscribers on both prepaid and postpaid lines, stating that any calls made during the free calls period will not be listed in their bill.

Yoodo also announced that all active users will receive 100 voice minutes for free, to be automatically credited into their accounts on May 13 at 12.01am.

The additional voice minutes will expire upon users’ next plan renewal.

“In the spirit of Hari Raya, no active user will be left behind. All Yoodo users can claim this offering, including users who do not have voice minutes in their mobile plan. Unlimited Plan users will also be credited with the free minutes,” Chow Tuck Mun, head of Yoodo, said in a statement.

According to Unifi on Twitter, all mobile postpaid customers on the RM19, RM29, RM39 and RM59 quota plans along with prepaid Bebas users will receive a complimentary 200-minute pass for voice calls. For postpaid users, the pass will be activated at 10pm tonight.

Prepaid customers have to redeem the pass through the mobile@unifi app during the free call period. The 200-minute pass quota is valid until June 10.

All TM customers can also enjoy free domestic calls from the TM fixed line.
