PETALING JAYA: Members of the public can redeem a token of appreciation when they donate their devices for the MyBaikHati crowdsourcing campaign at selected Telekom Malaysia (TM) outlets.

According to TM, the gift is a set of reusable metal straws and can be redeemed at the TM Experience Centre at Menara TM in Kuala Lumpur, TMpoint Cyberjaya and in Shah Alam, Selangor.

MyBaikHati, which was announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on March 17, aims to collect used devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones to be refurbished before being distributed to B40 families.

Some of the devices will also be distributed to Pusat Internet Komuniti where it will be available on loan to members of the community.

Devices that meet the terms and conditions will be refurbished at a cost of up to RM500 each by telcos while unsuitable devices will be recycled as e-waste.

The T&C states among others that the used devices’ screens must be in good condition, and must come complete with intact batteries and chargers. Donors are also recommended to reset the device to its default factory settings.

Donors are also welcomed to provide new or unused devices.

Apart from TM, other telcos involved in the MyBaikHati campaign are Maxis with drop off locations at Maxis Centres in Penang, Ipoh and Johor Bahru, Celcom, Digi, U Mobile and Time.

The campaign which began on March 18 will run for 12 months.
