BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

SHARING OF CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION

Chinese scientists raced against the clock to identify the pathogen and timely shared with the world the genome sequence of the coronavirus, winning time for the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, said a top biosafety specialist.

China's candid sharing of the virus information has helped other countries develop testing kits and vaccines, and provided key support to the global fight against COVID-19.

5G BASE STATIONS IN GUANGDONG

China's Guangdong Province has built more than 120,000 5G base stations and basically realized 5G network coverage in urban areas in the Pearl River Delta region, known as a major economic powerhouse.

According to data released at the ongoing fourth session of the 13th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, Guangdong will have 220,000 5G base stations built by the end of 2022, when the number of 5G users in the province is expected to reach 60 million.

INTELLIGENT WRISTBAND

An intelligent wristband capable of translating sign language into text, voice and images has debuted in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

The watch-sized wristband captures the arm movements of hearing-impaired individuals by recognizing the surface electromyography of the human body. It combines its readings with machine learning algorithms to translate gestures into voice, text and images.
