Android's 'screen pin' option lets you control how your phone is used

You want to share your smartphone with someone else for a bit so they can play a game or watch a film, but you also want to make sure they don't do anything else with it when you're not watching.

The solution, at least on Android, is the "screen pinning" function. To get there, head to Settings and pick "Security," then "Advanced" or "Other security settings", depending on what version you have.

Based on your device, you can set it so the device locks, or asks for a PIN or password, when someone tries to change what's onscreen.

To pin an app, you first need to open it, and then tap the overview button in the home bar. Then, on the bottom-right edge of the app thumbnail, you'll see a small pin button – tap it to start pinning.

To unpin the app, in most cases you can just press the "Back" and "Recents" buttons simultaneously. Depending on the model, the device is then immediately locked, or you have to enter your PIN to unlock. – dpa
