Running July 25 to 28, 2019's QuakeCon expo is putting a special focus on Doom, the influential video game that is celebrating its 25-year anniversary, with Doom Eternal due later in the year.

Since 1996, fans of action game developer Id Software have been gathering in Dallas, Texas for the annual QuakeCon event.

So named in reference to that year's release of first-person shooter Quake, the convention has since adopted a more general focus for games made by Id Software and its sister studios.

This year, attention turns even further back than the Quake debut, to 1993's Doom, which at QuakeCon 2019 will be celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Livestreamed presentations begin on July 26 at 11am Central Time, with the Keynote Presentation opening proceedings according to Id's publisher Bethesda Softworks.

That's 9am PDT, noon EDT, 4pm GMT, 5pm BST, 6pm CEST / South Africa, 9.30pm India, midnight July 28 in Singapore and Malaysia, 1am in Japan, and 2am in Sydney, Australia, via Twitch.tv/Bethesda, with QuakeCon.tv used for additional content.

The initial keynote will lead straight into a 25-year retrospective on the influence of Doom, led by staff from Id, MachineGames (current custodians of the Wolfenstein series), Bethesda Game Studios (The Elder Scrolls and Fallout), and Bethesda Softworks itself.

The topic returns to the immediate future of Doom on July 27, again at 11am CT (9am PDT, noon EDT, 4pm GMT, 5pm BST, 6pm CEST / South Africa, 9.30pm India, midnight July 28 in Singapore and Malaysia, 1am in Japan, 2am in Sydney, Australia).

Then, senior Id Software staffers Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin will host the first live gameplay demo of Doom Eternal, after the November 2019 game was shown at the 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June.

Also scheduled for July 27 are presentations for multiplayer apocalypse rebuilder Fallout 76 (10am CT, 11pm Malaysia), a look at the evolution of MMO The Elder Scrolls Online (2pm CT, 3am July 28 Malaysia), and a US$50,000 (RM205,858) Elder Scrolls: Legends digital card game competition running from 10am CT through Twitch.tv/TESLegends.

With the Quake Pro League season beginning on July 26, streamed via QuakeCon.tv and Twitch.tv/Quake, Sunday July 28 has 20 players tussling for World Championship honours from 8am CT (9pm, Malaysia). – AFP Relaxnews
