Tech website 9to5Google is reporting that Google could be developing a version of Android adapted to 3G and 4G phones without touchscreens. The site published a photo of one such device (likely a Nokia) running the famous OS.
The anonymous tip shows what looks like a version of Android adapted to a phone without a touchscreen. The user interface appears to have been redesigned to adapt to keypad navigation, with quick access to Google applications such as Chrome and YouTube.
This type of device, which is gaining traction in many regions of the world (namely Africa, India, and South-East Asia) is of great interest to Google, which has already invested in KaiOS, the leading OS for non-touchscreen phones, having perfectly integrated its own applications (including Google Assistant) in the fledgling ecosystem.
Not content with its domination of the smartphone market, Android could soon be the province of more modest phones, which are nonetheless a lifeline for hundreds of millions of people around the world.
