Ever wanted to know what your pet would look like if it were a different animal?

Well, whether you have or not, there's now a new web tool that allows you to find out.

The pet swapping tool uses an algorithm similar to the ones used for so-called deepfakes to transform an image of your beloved pet into an image of another animal, such as a lion, for instance, or a mongoose.

Deepfakes are hyper-realistic digital forgeries that are often used for nefarious purposes, for instance in order to show someone doing something they never did.

But while a lot of deepfake technology is used in problematic ways, the PetSwap tool by Nvidia is just a bit of silly fun.

All you need to do to try it out is follow the instructions on the website, using either Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser. There's also a fun demo video that shows you how how it's done. – dpa
