PDFs are very commonly used text documents but what if you need to reduce the size of a PDF? Or combine multiple PDFs into one document? Or correct an error in one?

Then you find yourself looking at costly software solutions or having to install different software for every requirement.

Fortunately, there is a free alternative. The website smallpdf.com lets users edit PDFs in their browser. The changes are uploaded to the company's servers and the updated PDF is then ready to download.

You can also convert PowerPoint presentations to PDFs or remove the password protection from a PDF – all for free as long as you don't work on more than two documents in an hour. If you wish to do more than that, you need to register and pay a subscription.

Smallpdf.com says it doesn't read, copy or permanently store any content and all edited documents are deleted after one hour. – dpa
