YouTube now highlights videos from credible sources

A search for 'Stan Lee' in YouTube features videos from The StarTV in the Top News shelf.

The StarTV videos and those from other news organisations will now be featured in YouTube’s new Breaking News and Top News features.

This is part of the video platform’s ongoing efforts to improve its news service by making credible sources more readily accessible to users.

The Top News feature will prominently highlight videos from news sources in search results. For example, a quick search for “Stan Lee” highlights The StarTV’s latest videos on the legendary icon’s passing, among others.

When a breaking news happens, the Breaking News “shelf” will highlight videos from news organisations about the event directly on the YouTube homepage.

This way users are proactively alerted to breaking news, YouTube said in a statement.

“We’re very excited to roll out these features in Malaysia to provide a better experience to Malaysian users who come to YouTube every day to learn more about what is happening in the world, “ said YouTube’s news partnership director Tim Katz.

Top News and Breaking News features have been launched in over 23 countries, and are already available to users in Malaysia.
