Microsoft has revamped Skype's design again, following complaints about a colourful, convoluted design released in mid-2017.

The latest overhaul of the video chat software is supposed to make it easier for users to use core chat functions by removing a controversial function from the previous version that showed Snapchat-style "highlights" from friends.

The update also improves core features such as the quality of voice and video calling, Peter Skillmann, director of design for Skype and Outlook, said in a recent blog post of the company.

Microsoft has also brought back parts of the menu navigation from the classic Skype version. The latest version of the software is also noticeably less colourful. The program's simplified "Classic" blue theme aims to improve contrast and readability. Skype 8.29 is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. – dpa
