Microsoft’s Authenticator app for securely logging in to online services is now coming to the Apple Watch. The app will allow users to confirm that they do want to log into an account by tapping on their smartwatch.
This should impede unauthorised parties from accessing these accounts. A public test phase with the Authenticator’s companion app is currently underway, while the final version should be released soon according to Microsoft.
Other free apps with similar offerings in addition to the Microsoft Authenticator include the Google Authenticator and LastPass.
These programs are linked to an online account and supply users with additional security codes that have to be entered after the password when logging in. This makes Accounts better protected in case of a data breach or lost password. – dpa
