‘What's my horoscope?’ and other unexpected questions for Google Assistant

Google Assistant works in eight languages. — AFP Relaxnews

There is more to Google Assistant than just asking it to make phone calls to Mom or try to find out where fugitive Jho Low is. Did you know you can “Hey Google” your way to keeping yourself updated with the news and also have some fun for the day? Check out some of these questions you can ask with Google Assistant.

“What song is this?”
Use this nifty feature to ask about an unknown song you’re hearing anywhere. So far, I’ve used this feature by letting the phone listen to songs playing through the car radio. It has identified songs like Renjana by Noh Salleh and Trouble by Cage The Elephant.

“Where am I now?”

Here’s a good question if you're lost and have no idea of the location you’re at. Google Assistant will say “here to help” and provide you with a map of your current location. Best used with Location Information feature on your phone turned on.

“Tell me the news”
So you’re driving to work and need to find out what’s happening around the world? Turn on Google Assistant and get it to play the latest news from outlets like BBC and Reuters. You can also customise this feature on News Settings to pick which source you’d like to hear the news from.

“What’s my horoscope?”
Well, who doesn’t want a hint of what the day may bring, right? Google Assistant will give you results like: “You will meet someone who will tell you something and you will think about it...” with a cry-laughing emoji. Sometimes it gives answers in three parts: “You will find great wealth...” followed by “of knowledge” and ends with... “from me”. Well, good to know. You can adjust this feature to let Google Assistant read your horoscope from a preferred crystal ball, I mean provider.

“Tell me something funny”
Need a quick laugh? Google Assistant is happy to tell you some terribly lame jokes. One result we got was: “What did the toilet say to the other toilet?”
The answer: “You look a bit flushed!”
Slow clap.
If you respond with “lame” to Google Assistant, it will apologise.

“Do you know any bad puns?”
Since we’re on the subject of lame jokes, Google Assistant can also be useful for handing out corporal pun-ishment. One particular result we got was: “As a golfer, it’s always smart to wear two pairs of trousers. You know, in case you get a hole in one.”
