Touch ‘n Go (TNG) has updated its app to allow users to see the value remaining in their physical TnG cards or if they have expired.

Sadly, it’s still not possible to top up credit via the app.

All you have to do is enter the 10-digit serial number on the back of the card into the app.

However, it may not display the actual value, as toll payments take about 48 hours to be recorded.

Users can add up to three physical TNG cards, including their MyKad, though Fleet Cards and auto-reloading Zing cards are not yet compatible.

Despite the incremental development of the app, Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd says it is pushing into the Fintech space through its subsidiary TNG Digital Sdn Bhd, which opened its offices in Bangsar South today.

“Aligned with the opening of our new office, we are focusing our efforts in strengthening the TNG eWallet. We hope to be the enabler for Malaysians to transition their lifestyle and provide seamless, more convenient payment experience for all our users,” said TNG Digital CEO Syahrunizam Samsudin.

TNG Digital was formed through a joint-venture with Chinese fintech giant Ant Financial Services Group, to push cashless payments through TNG’s eWallet.

Currently, the eWallet allows users to manage their TNG RFID accounts, check their TNG card value, pay bills, top up phone credit, and even buy movie and plane tickets.

Syahrunizam announced that as part of TNG Digital’s efforts to reach out to the community, it is launching a 10-week internship programme, where 10 students will be placed across different departments in TNG Digital. At the end of their internship, one student will be sent to Hangzhou, China to experience the cashless lifestyle there.

“There is no better way to encourage lifestyle changes, have an exchange of ideas, and demonstrate the value of technology. With the youths here, we need to build on their knowledge and expertise, as well as invest in these local talents to equip them with the necessary skills to catapult the fintech industry to further heights,” he says.

Interested candidates can submit their interest to TNG Digital’s Human Resource Department hrad@tngdigital.com.my.
