Apple's iTunes is now also available for Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store, meaning that Windows 10 S users can also download the program.

For users of a regular Windows 10 version, the Store version offers advantages over the one from Apple. Ars Technica reports that iTunes from the Windows Store comes without other Apple applications such as its own update program or iCloud for Windows. Updates are imported through the Microsoft Store.

iTunes for Windows offers access to the iTunes Store featuring movies, music and audio books, as well as Apple's streaming service Apple Music. Previously available features such as the App Store for iOS apps have now also been removed from the Windows version.

It's now possible to set up iOS devices without iTunes, but that doesn't make the program obsolete. If you don't want to use Apple's iCloud, for example, you can easily create local data backups from your smartphone or tablet using iTunes. You may also be able to solve quite a few technical issues on your iPhone, iPad or other Apple device using a USB cable and iTunes.

If you already have iTunes installed on your computer, installing the software from the Microsoft Store will replace the previous version. Existing music libraries will also be transferred. — dpa
