Huawei claims its latest flagship smartphones, the P20 and P20 Pro, are competitively priced even though they pack premium hardware.
The P20 with twin cameras and P20 Pro with triple cameras are priced at RM2,599 and RM3,299, respectively, and will go on sale on April 6.
Huawei product director Luke Au said pricing should not define the premium standing of a phone.
Deputy country director Matthew Ng claimed the company’s market share has increased steadily from 3% in 2015 to 22% in 2017 with premium products serving as the catalyst for its growth.
The smartphones will come in three different colours – Black, Midnight Blue and the new Pink Gold.
A fourth colour – Twilight – and a Proche designed version of the smartphone is still being mulled over and their release will depend on demand, said Au.
The P20 Pro has a 40-megapixel RGB sensor, 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and 8-megapixel sensor with a 3x optical telephoto lens.
The P20 has a similar setup as its predecessor – a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and 20-megapixel monochrome sensor.
Both also feature large sensors to capture more light with the P20 Pro having a 1/1.7 inch sensor while the P20 a 1/2.3 inch sensor.
They can record videos in super slow motion at 960fps (frames per second), and have a 24-megapixel selfie camera that uses AI for beautification and stabilisation.
The P20, which weighs 165g, has a 5.8in LCD screen, 4GB RAM and 3,400mAh battery. The P20 Pro, which weighs 180g, has a 6.1in OLED screen, 6GB RAM and4,000 mAh battery.
The handsets run on the company’s Kirin 970 processor and are powered by Android 8.1. Both have 128GB storage each but don’t support memory cards for adding extra storage.
