Sonic magic: The Amazon Echo contains a cylindrical loudspeaker and a seven-piece microphone array.

Amazon's cylindrical butler, voice control device Echo, is now compatible with Spotify for net-based music streaming.

In a Feb 4 announcement that brings in US Spotify Premium subscribers, the Amazon Echo can stream from Spotify, and integration with Spotify Connect means that users can transfer streaming duties to the Echo from another device.

They can also tell the Echo to play songs, artists, genres, or playlists from Spotify.

The Amazon Echo was released to the general public in June 2015, entering a field of voice-operated technology already populated by Microsoft (Cortana), Google (Google Now), Apple (Siri) and BlackBerry (BlackBerry Assistant). —  AFP Relaxnews
