Huawei, the Chinese IT giant, unveiled its latest flagship, the Honor 7, a smartphone with premium features but an affordable price tag.

Unlike previous models which featured a glass or plastic body, the Honor 7 has a full-metal body with airbrushed ceramic coating.

Priced at RM1,399, the Honor 7 doesn’t skimp on features as it has a 20-megapixel rear camera, and 8-megapixel front-facing camera with a wide-angle lens for taking group selfies.

Huawei is one of few to use Sapphire crystal, which is scratch resistant, for the rear camera.

The Android phone has a 5.2in full HD screen, the company’s own Kirin 935 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage and large 3,100mAh battery.

The main highlight is the fingerprint sensor which Huawei claims is the fastest on the market as it only takes 0.5 seconds to detect the user’s fingerprint.

It’s also capable of self-learning as it re-records the user’s fingerprint every time it’s used to improve accuracy.

The sensor, which is located below the back camera, can also be used to capture photo or video, answer calls, stop the alarm and display the notification panel.

The Honor 7 is the first Huawei phone to feature a Smart Key which can be programmed to launch three of your favourite apps and features. For instance, you press it once to launch Google Now, press it twice to activate the torchlight or hold it to take a screenshot.

The Honor 7 will go on sale on Sept 28 on Vmall.my, Huawei’s e-commerce platform. It will be available in  two colours – Mystery Grey and Fantasy Silver.
