Smart snowboard changes your tunes

Music-loving freestylers should take note that Signal Snowboards has been working with musician and programmer Matt Davis to produce a board that creates a soundtrack to your tricks, depending on what you do.

As part of their YouTube channel series Every Third Thursday, Signal Snowboards highlighted the creation of the board, which is thought to be the first capable of changing the soundtrack in a corresponding electronic gadget based on accelerometer readings.

"Now that everything around us can just kind of put out data, we can catch that and use it to do whatever we want in music-land," says Matt Davis in the video, first spotted by Hackaday.

The board is equipped with an accelerometer, a rechargeable battery and GPS, according to Every Third Thursday, and it connects to its corresponding app via Bluetooth.

Users simply program their favourite music, and then open the app and strap on the board, according to team member David Lee.

The informational video shows the board being tested by user Daniel DB Brown, who wears headphones from Bose for the occasion, and Lee and the audience are able to listen in using a splitter.

A set of electronic music unfolds as DB spins frontside and backside through the snowpark, riding rails and landing switch, the track changing with his orientation.

"I can hear everything that he's doing," chimes in Lee.

Signal Snowboards also came out with the light-up Night Rider Floodlightr snowboard for night riding and a solar cell-powered board that charges your gadgets called the Solar Hybrid (RM2625).

No information is available on when the smart snowboard might become available for purchase. — AFP/RelaxNews 2014
