This Xerox multi-function printer “sees” you

FUJI Xerox’s latest ApeosPort-V C/DocuCenter-V C series automatically wakes up from “sleep” mode when it senses a user nearby.

The full-colour digital multi-function device has two “eyes” — a real-time proximity camera and a pyroelectric heat sensor to detect approaching users — so that the device can be ready by the time the user reaches it.

According to the company, its Smart WelcomEyes Advance feature is able to detect the direction the person’s toes are pointing to determine whether he or she wishes to use the device or is simply just passing by.

Then the on-board facial recognition camera can be used to authenticate users when they stand in front of the device. Once authenticated, the device will display the user’s custom “on-screen” menu. The ApeosPort-V can register up to 100 faces.

The device is rated to produce up to 70ppm (pages per minute) and scan at up to 160 impressions per minute for both colour and black-and-white documents.

Its ScanAuto feature will automatically correct the orientation of the pages and also remove blank pages, saving users the trouble of preparing the document and checking the scanned output.

The ApeosPort-V is also equipped with Smart Energy Management that controls and powers up only the functions that the users needs to reduce power consumption and CO2 output, for a greener future.

The company has also addressed the problem of noise by cutting down sound emission by 61% as compared to its previous models by reducing the number of moving parts.

The device can also connect to the Fuji Xerox’s Cloud-based translation service called Scan Translation Service for translating documents as they are being scanned.

To print directly from smartphones or tablets, users can download and install the free Print Utility app on their devices. Both the iOS and Android platforms are supported.

The ApeosPort-V C/DocuCentre-V C series is available in 14 versions with prices ranging from RM25,000 to RM100,000.
