HERE IT IS: Nokia Pan Asia head of marketing Gary Chan and Nokia Malaysia head of marketing Eda Lim posing with the new Lumia 1520 .

Nokia is a little late to the party but it has produced its first phablet — the Lumia 1520 — which has a huge 6in full-HD.

“The Lumia 1520 brings industry leading design, hardware and imaging innovation to a bigger screen,” said Nokia Pan Asia head of marketing Gary Chan. The large display allows users to display an additional column of Live Tiles so that they can pack more apps on the front screen.

“With our first 6in Lumia smartphone, users will be able to enjoy a unique experience and make the most of new apps like Storyteller, Instagram and Vine,” he said.

Nokia has also partnered with DiGi to provide its customers a new way of paying for apps. DiGi customers can now buy apps on the Windows Phone Store from their Nokia phone and charge it to their postpaid bill or deduct it from their prepaid balance.  In other words, they no longer need a credit card to buy apps and

Nokia is also in talks with other telcos to expand this service.

The Lumia 1520 is powered by quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor — a first for a Nokia device — which runs at 2.2Ghz and promises a smoother experience with the Windows Phone 8 platform.

It has 32GB internal storage and a microSD card slot for adding more space.
As this is a Windows Phone, users will also get Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as  7GB of free Cloud storage via SkyDrive.

Nokia’s focus on imaging is also evident here, as the smartphone comes with a 20-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilisation. This allows the camera to shoot sharp images even in areas with insufficient light.

Battery life is rated at up to 25 hours for talktime thanks to the big 3,400mAh battery.

The Lumia 1520 will be available in four colours — yellow, white, red and black — and cost RM2,159 when it hits stores early this month.
