YOU don’t have to brave the high seas anymore if you’re seeking 3D treasures. The Buccaneer 3D printer enables you to indulge in your creative side without breaking the bank or walking the plank.

The creator, Singaporean-based company Pirate3D, claims that it has designed its printer to be more user friendly as well as affordable for everyone.

The Buccaneer printer is 440 x 258 x 258mm in size and weighs 8kg, and uses fused filament fabrication printing technology.

It has a build volume of 145 x 125 x 155mm , and has a layer resolution of 85 microns (0.085mm). Its positioning precision is 15.9 microns XY (0.0159mm) and 11.25 microns Z (0.01125mm). Filament and nozzle diameters are 1.75mm and 0.4mm, respectively.

The printer is sold with a software bundle called Smart Objects Store which accepts STL (stereolithography) and smart-object file formats. It runs on the iPhone, Android, Mac OS and Linux operating systems.

It is priced at US$497 (RM1,500) and costs US$74 (RM240) to ship it here. Pre-orders can now be made via the Pirate3D website (pirate3d.com/preorder), with delivery dates expected to be in April 2014.
