PETALING JAYA: Cybersecurity expert Sourcefire Inc has opened an office in Malaysia to better serve its two distributors and 15 resellers here. Previously, services and support were handled by its regional headquarters in Singapore.

Sourcefire Malaysia country manager Ivan Wen said that in the past, the company’s product consultant and technical support team would be flown here every two weeks to meet with channel partners and help customers with any security problems.

Now, the Malaysian office acts as a liaison between local partners and the regional Hq, and is also tasked with providing fast response to local customer enquiries, as well as giving technical support.

“The opening of the office here shows Sourcefire’s commitment to its customers in this country,” Wen said.

It markets the Sourcefire 3D System, a systematic network defence built on an open-source intrusion, detection and prevention technology called Snort.

The system is designed to adapt to dynamic networks and online threats in real-time.

Sourcefire 3D is targeted at enterprise clients in the vertical industries — finance, healthcare, higher education, retail, and telecommunications, as well as the government sector.

New network security solutions, that will target small and medium enterprises, are scheduled to be launched before the month’s end, Wen said, but he declined to provide details.

Despite having a Malaysian presence now, the company’s sales and distribution strategy is still 100% channel-centric.

“Sourcefire Malaysia does not deal directly with clients — everything will continue to go through our channel partners,” said Wen.

And to enhance its services and support in the market here, the company will increase the number of its resellers to 20 by year end.
