This is the Droid (phone) you’re looking for

MOTOROLA and US mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless are releasing a special edition R2-D2 Droid smartphone that is sure to get snapped up by Star Wars lovers across the United States.

The highly anticipated, limited edition smartphone, features an Astromech Droid design taken straight out of Star Wars.

To seal the deal, the handset comes packaged in a custom “carbonite” box and ships with a Star Wars media dock and wired stereo headset.

For Verizon Wireless customers not lucky enough to get their hands on the R2-D2 Droid, the company is also releasing a new Star Wars Mobile application for smartphones running Android 2.1 and higher. The app, which includes a bounty hunting game, wallpapers and Star Wars themed widgets, is priced at US$2.99 (RM9.35) in the Android Marketplace.

The Droid R2-D2 will be available in the United States from September 30 for US$249 (RM780) on a two-year contract. — Relaxnews
