PETALING JAYA: MAXIS Bhd has launched the first local carrier-based application store, the 1Store.
The 1Store which is available for any WAP enabled devices, will be device independent, and cater applications for different mobile phone platforms such as Android, Blackberry and Symbian.
Applications sold on the 1Store will support more than 100 devices, said T, Kugan, Maxis vice-president and head of products, devices and innovation.
“The bulk of applications on the 1Store are free although there are a few paid ones available now. We’ve also made the user interface simple to use and find applications,” he said.
There will be apps for entertainment, finance, travel, lifestyle, games and more, he said.
“Malaysians are becoming increasingly data centric users with an average daily consumption of 20MB per user. The 1Store is timely as it will offer users content-rich services for their mobile devices,” said Kugan.
Maxis will also offer an easy-to-use platform for local app developers to get their application on its store, he said.
The telco aims to extend the 1Store to its regional partners and eventually extend the app store to other countries — CHONG JINN XIUNG
