From player to creator

At UOW Malaysia, the Bachelor of Game Development (Hons) programme lets you dive into the unique world of game development, exploring how you can transform from passive participants into active builders of worlds.

WHETHER it is the thrill of a last-minute victory in an online battle, the satisfaction of solving a puzzle or the awe of stepping into a vast open world, games are never just entertainment.

They are lived experiences. Behind every one of those experiences is a game studio filled with people who turned imagination into something you can step into.

At UOW Malaysia, the Bachelor of Game Development (Hons) programme lets you dive into the unique world of game development, exploring how players become creators and how a passion for games can transform you from mere participants to active builders of worlds.

More than meets the eye

The game development industry is no longer a sideshow. It is the main stage – bigger than the film and music industries combined.

Game development is all about immersion, where you interact with stories told through cinematic visuals, characters made believable through sound design and emotions carried by musical composition.

If you’ve ever been so immersed in a game that you start imagining a world of your own – one where others can feel just as connected – you are no longer just a player but a budding game developer ready to shape the next generation of play.

This is where UOW Malaysia comes in.

As UOW Malaysia is recognised as an Unreal Engine Academic Partner, the programme gives you access to the same tools powering global titles. As UOW Malaysia is recognised as an Unreal Engine Academic Partner, the programme gives you access to the same tools powering global titles.

From level one to game master

Once you have enrolled at the institution, you could think of yourself as a “Level One” character embarking on a new adventure.

Over three years, you will gain experience points through academic “missions” to level up your skill tree in the Bachelor of Game Development (Hons) programme.

You will move from “what if” to “what next”, exploring the foundations of game design, art and technology, and how each discipline weaves into the whole.

UOW Malaysia is also one of the few universities in the region recognised as an Academic Partner of Unreal Engine, a 3D computer graphics game engine developed by Epic Games, giving you access to the same tools powering global titles.

This means that you’ll graduate with more than theory and leave with an industry-ready skillset and a portfolio that commands the attention of game development companies.

Building your guild

No great game is made alone and no great career is either.

Just as you would not take on a raid without a party, stepping into the industry means joining forces with people who have been there before.

At UOW Malaysia, you are not levelling up in isolation, but connecting with an established ecosystem.

The programme is linked with the Game Development Council of Malaysia and works with global game development companies.

The challenges you face in class are shaped by real-life studio demands, giving you the multiplayer advantage via mentors, peers and experts who become your guild as you grow.

Whether you enjoy the artistic elements or the programming side of game development, the degree allows you to turn that passion into a career.Whether you enjoy the artistic elements or the programming side of game development, the degree allows you to turn that passion into a career.

Creating your specialty

If you like sketching characters, love storytelling or obsess over why a mechanic feels so good to play, at UOW Malaysia, that curiosity is your spark.

This degree is for anyone who wants to refine their spark into a craft.

The programme thrives on variety, whether it be artists, coders, storytellers or problem-solvers; every talent adds something unique.

While you bring your talents, the degree gives you the tools and structure to turn them into something the world can experience.

The Bachelor of Game Development (Hons) programme at UOW Malaysia is not just another game design course – it is a quest that turns passion into purpose and players into creators. For more information, visit www.uow.edu.my
