Keeping your home safe

THE year 2021 has been a turbulent one for many, particularly in relation to our health and well-being.

With the battle against the coronavirus, restricted movements and lockdowns, people were careful to safeguard themselves from being infected by viruses and bacteria, by following the standard operating procedures, sanitising their spaces regularly and getting vaccinated.

The recent flood added further woe, as flood victims had to clean their properties damaged by waterborne diseases even more, to ensure the conditions are safe to live and work for their health in the longer term.

Nevertheless, people are hopeful as they greet the new year with renewed optimism.

Nippon Paint Malaysia (NPM) has recently launched the anti-viral and anti-bacterial paint range with improved formula to champion indoor safety and wellness.

Two new products were introduced to complement VirusGuard paint, with the addition of Spot-less Plus and Vinilex Fresh Plus having proven effective in preventing the spread of infectious diseases, including Covid-19.

These products, developed specifically to ensure our indoor walls are protected and safe to touch, include:

> Spot-less Plus: A low sheen paint that contains anti-stain technology and effectively repels stains to protect against viruses and bacteria.

> Vinilex Fresh Plus: A washable matt finishing paint that provides protection against bacteria and viruses.

> VirusGuard: A mid-sheen antimicrobial paint with superior washability and long-lasting colours plus anti-fungal, low odour, low VOC and stain repellent properties. It is also able to destroy influenza virus such as H1N1 (Swine Flu); hand, foot and mouth disease viruses including HFMD (Coxsackievirus A16); as well as bacteria like E. Coli, MRSA and Staphylococcus Aureus.

NPM group managing director Yaw Seng Heng said, “The new products are part of the group’s endeavour in keeping everyone safe indoor. It is formulated with Silver Ion Technology, which is scientifically proven to destroy 99.9% of harmful viruses and bacteria on painted surfaces.

“As the number one paint in Malaysia and Asia, the anti-viral and anti-bacterial range from Nippon Paint is part of our continuous efforts to create safer indoor space for everyone for their homes, workspaces and public premises.

“We believe the launch of the anti-viral and anti-bacterial range is timely to provide an added layer of protection to our indoor environment. In our drive to champion indoor health and wellness, we are always seeking new opportunities to innovate with solutions that can add value for our customers, in addition to creating beautiful and healthy surroundings."

The anti-viral and anti-bacterial range can destroy microbes with high efficacy and is proven to be 99.9% effective against harmful viruses and bacteria including Covid-19, in the lab-tested reports from Antimikrop R&D and Biocidal Analysis Lab.

The Silver Ion Technology can inhibit the spread of viruses and bacteria through three approaches:

> Deactivation of the viruses and bacteria’s functions

> Reducing their ability to multiply and reproduce

> Inhibiting their growth, which ultimately causes the death of viruses and bacteria

Some bacteria, such as E. Coli, may even persist on inanimate surfaces for up to a few months. This emphasises the importance of disinfecting and sanitising frequently touched surfaces on a regular basis, including the walls as we often touch the walls, making the large surface a top breeding ground for viruses and bacteria to lurk on.

“The surfaces we touch in our daily routine can be a vector of viral and bacterial transmission. That is why we have developed a surface coating solution to protect walls by using Silver Ion Technology in our paints to transform ordinary surfaces into anti-viral and anti-bacterial surfaces.

“Nippon Paint's anti-viral and anti-bacterial range is an innovative and sustainable way to create safer and healthier indoor environments. While painting surfaces with antimicrobial paint does not mean that virus and bacteria ceases transmission altogether, it protects the surfaces with anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties that will help minimise the risks,” explained Yaw.

The environmentally friendly coatings are available in various colour choices and suitable for any indoor space such as residences, educational centres, health institutions, restaurants, prayer rooms, cinemas, gyms, aged care facilities, as well as commercial buildings in offices, hotels and meeting rooms.

A splash of Nippon Paint colour can spruce up our living spaces for a fresh makeover to create beautiful, happier and safer environment and protection to safeguard the health of our loved ones.

Make the right choice for your home and work spaces at the start of the new year to get maximum protection against invisible viruses and bacteria.
