Nexus International School is the Top IBDP School in Malaysia ranked top 2% in the World and Top 50 in Asia

International School is the Top IB diploma programme school in Malaysia, ranked in the top 2% in the world and Top 50 in Asia.

HAVING established an exemplary track record over the years, Nexus International Malaysia is extremely proud to be ranked as Top 2% Global IB Schools in the World and Top 50 in Asia according to Education Advisers Ltd, cementing its position among the top International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma programme schools in Malaysia.

The IB diploma programme is the world’s fastest growing curriculum with over 5,400 schools having adopted it to date.

Founded in 2008, Nexus International Schools offers the IB diploma as a pre-university qualification for senior learners. This follows the International Early Years and International Primary Curriculum in primary schools, as well as the middle school and IGCSE curriculums in lower secondary.

The delivery of the curriculum and the philosophy of the school, the Nexus Way, offer a seamless transition in style, structure and approach to the IB diploma programme.

What is the IB diploma programme?

The IB diploma provides learners with a depth of knowledge across traditional academic subjects, alongside opportunities to reflect on their understanding of the world around them.

The diploma assesses more than exam technique and encourages the growth of independent and confident learners.

Nexus principal David Griffiths strives for learner empowerment at Nexus throughout all year levels in the school.

He describes his pedagogical beliefs as fundamentally having a constructivist slant: Learning comes from relevant, real life, hands-on experiences and situations around the learner.

Learners are not just expected to reel off knowledge and facts through rote learning, but develop deeper understandings. With skillful teachers and facilitators of learning, the classroom and the environment outside of it are both conducive for this type of learning.

This aspect of learning can be seen in the innovative and creative ways that the school curricula are used to promote learning, including the ‘Creativity, Activity and Service’ programme available at Nexus’ IB diploma programme for 16- to 19-year old learners.

“Constantly attending and often facilitating professional learning, our expert teachers are highly experienced in providing the individualized mentoring and support that our IB diploma programme learners require and deserve throughout their two-year pre-university course. This is absolutely critical to a successful IB diploma programme,” Griffiths added.

Achieving excellence the Nexus Way

With IB scores that consistently surpass worldwide averages, Nexus has also enabled learners to achieve a perfect 45 points in the past three consecutive years. A perfect score in IB diploma programme examinations is an extraordinary achievement with a very small percentage of learners – typically fewer than 1% per year – achieving this feat worldwide.

Khoo Qi Xuan, Ahmad Matin Moors, Caryn Chan and Ju Eun Bae are all Nexus learners who have scored 45 points since 2019.

Khoo was also the first Malaysian to receive the prestigious Karsh International Scholarship to study at Duke University in the United States, while Matin is currently pursuing economics and English literature at the University of St. Andrews in the United Kingdom.

More recently in the class of 2021, Caryn Chan was awarded the Lee Kong Chian Scholarship to study computer science at Singapore Management University, while Ju Eun Bae has secured a place at KAIST, a top ranking Korean university.

Chan acknowledges that the secret to her success was the conducive, motivating and supportive environment at Nexus. The strong camaraderie between peers and teachers has been the pillar of her IB experience at Nexus.

“There is always someone that I can reach out to and it’s reassuring to know that you’re not alone in this.” she added.

Bae explained how the Nexus community helped her to succeed. During her two years IB journey at Nexus, she received support and encouragement from her teachers which brought the best out of her.

She said,“Whenever I was stressed out during the extended lockdowns, they guided me and counselled me in order to maintain my motivation to learn.”

Many of the top IBDP achievers at Nexus are boarders, indicating a strong academic advantage and balanced lifestyle in the boarding house. Nexus boarding is ideal for exam year students, offering peer-to-peer as well as expert teacher support.
