KUCHING: Selangor’s Sharifah Elsa Wan Abdul Rahman ended her campaign in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) on a high by winning the girl’s singles gold medal.

The 21-year-old dominated her final against Perak’s Shihomi Leong, winning 6-1, 6-1 at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) on Thursday (Aug 22).

Sharifah was relieved to win a gold, as her previous best result at Sukma came at the 2016 edition, which was also held in Sarawak, where she took home the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, Terengganu’s Anja Samia Nayar was handed a bronze after Nao Phang Ziyi of the Federal Territories gave her a walkover in the third-placing fixture.

In the boy's singles event, Perak's Mitsuki Leong defeated teammate Daniel Prickett 6-1, 6-4 to defend the gold medal he won at the previous 2022 Sukma in Kuala Lumpur.
