Sivasangari stuns top seed Amina to reach season-ending PSA final

PETALING JAYA: National squash player S. Sivasangari became the first Malaysian in 14 years to reach the PSA Squash Tour Finals title-decider after she stunned top seed Amina Orfi of Egypt in the semi-finals on Friday (June 19).

World No. 5 Sivasangari delivered a stunning performance to take down reigning world champion Orfi 8-11, 11-10, 11-8, 11-10 in 74 minutes at the Cenquatre-Paris in France.

Sivasangari is the first Malaysian to enter the final of the season-ending tournament since Datuk Nicol David in 2012. Nicol had won the title after beating England’s Laura Massaro.

The 27-year-old Sivasangari has now beaten Orfi three times in 10 meetings. The Malaysian also won their most recent encounter at the Grasshopper Cup semi-final in Zurich in April, where she went on to win the title.

Sivasangari will face world No. 1 Hania El Hammamy in the final after the Egyptian took down compatriot Fayrouz Aboelkheir 11-10, 11-8, 11-8.
