Sivasangari defeats Japan's Watanabe in straight sets to book semi-final spot

PETALING JAYA: National squash ace S. Sivasangari stormed her way into the semi-finals of the PSA Squash Tour Finals after taking down Satomi Watanabe of Japan on Wednesday (June 17).

Fourth seed Sivasangari delivered a strong showing to beat fifth seed Watanabe 11-9, 11-6, 11-9 in 35 minutes at the Centquatre-Paris in France.

Sivasangari had initially been slated to face world No. 4 Olivia Weaver in the first round, but the American withdrew due to injury which led to Watanabe facing Sivasangari instead.

Sivasangari has now won eight of the nine previous meetings against Watanabe. The Japanese player’s only win came at the Tour Finals last year.

Waiting for Sivasangari in the semi-final is world No. 2 and top seed Amina Orfi of Egypt.

The reigning world champion Orfi entered the semis after defeating eighth seed Tinne Gilis of Belgium 11-1, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5 on Wednesday.
