Cross: RTG timing is perfect for Eain Yow

PETALING JAYA: National squash player Ng Eain Yow’s inclusion into the Road to Gold (RTG) programme has come in the nick of time.

National coaching director Andrew Cross welcomed the move as it would help the defending champion prepare for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games from Sept 19-Oct 4, where gold medallists will earn automatic qualification for the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.

The 28-year-old had previously been under the second-tier Fast Track programme.

“It’s a great opportunity and move for Eain Yow to be fully in the RTG programme,” said Cross, acknowledging his gratitude to all parties involved.

“It’s important to get that support in the build-up towards the Asian Games and towards his Olympic dreams,” said Cross.

“Hopefully he can do well at the Asian Games this year and secure his spot for LA2028, which is what he has been working hard for.

“We will be meeting with them (RTG) next week to see what the exact support package will be for Eain Yow.”

The world No. 20 Eain Yow earned inclusion despite being outside the world’s top eight due to his status as Malaysia’s strongest men’s contender to qualify for the Olympics alongside women’s star and world No. 5 S. Sivasangari.
