Squash: Malaysia cruise past Poland to open World Cup campaign in style


PETALING JAYA: The national squash team made a commanding start to their World Cup campaign, defeating Poland 4-0 in the opening Group C fixture on Wednesday (Dec 10).

At Express Avenue Mall in Chennai, Malaysia began strongly through Aifa Azman, who easily overcame Sofia Zrazhevska 7-4, 7-2, 7-0 to secure the first point.

Ameeshenraj Chandaran extended the lead by beating Jan Samborski 7-1, 7-5, 7-1.

Aira Azman followed her sister’s example, defeating Karina Tyma 7-4, 7-5, 7-4 to widen Malaysia’s advantage.

Syafiq Kamal sealed victory with a 7-5, 7-3, 7-2 win over Kajetan Lipski.

The defeat confirmed Poland’s exit from the quarter-finals, having earlier lost 3-1 to Australia.

Malaysia will face Australia on Thursday (Dec 11) in a tie that will decide the Group C winners.
