PETALING JAYA: National squash player Zoe Foo pulled off a stunning upset in the second round to book her spot in the quarter-finals of the Tuanku Muhriz Trophy.

Yesterday, the world No. 307 Zoe produced a brilliant performance to topple compatriot and world No. 78 J. Yasshmita 11-5, 11-6, 7-11, 11-5 in 27 minutes in the second round at the S2 Sports Complex in Seremban.

It was Zoe’s biggest upset in a tournament since making her return to competitive squash in June.

"I’m very happy to see my progress since I picked up squash again," said the 26-year-old Zoe.

"I’ve never played with Yasshmita before, but I knew she is very good with her shots, so I had to be prepared to run to the front.

"My body allowed me to do that today and I managed to overcome the fear of not being able to move as quickly as I wanted to.

"I’m very happy with my performance today (yesterday) and I’m very happy to get the win."

It will be another gruelling match for Zoe as she takes on third seed and world No. 53 Nardine Garas of Egypt in the last eight today.

Nardine secured a straightforward 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 win over Japan’s Erisa Sano Herring in another second-round match.

"For the next match, I really don’t know what to expect, but I just hope to get some good squash and continue to perform the way I have," said Zoe.

"I will get a lot of rest tonight and fuel up, and hopefully I’ll be prepared for the match."
