PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s national squash players continue their strong run as all three have reached the finals of two tournaments on Saturday (April 27).
Rachel Arnold and Ng Eain Yow delivered impressive performances to secure their places in the final of the Bronze-level Squash on Fire Open in Washington, D.C.
Fourth seed Rachel upset top seed Rowan Elaraby in the semi-finals, winning 3-11, 11-6, 12-10, 6-11, 11-7 in a 51-minute match.
"I'm pretty happy with my performance. I fought well on Thursday (June 27) in the fifth. It was edgy at times but I'm really happy with the win," she said.
Rachel will take on third seed Amanda Sobhy in the final on Thursday (June 27).
In the men’s category, second seed Ng Eain Yow made it to the finals after taking down Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey 11-5, 11-4, 11-6.
Eain Yow, who recently broke into the top 10 rankings, will take on top seed Marwan ElShorbagy for a chance at the title.
Meanwhile, S. Sivasangari made it into her second Gold-level final of her career after defeating Belgium’s Tinne Gilis 13-11, 7-11, 11-8, 15-13 in the semi-finals of the Grasshopper Cup in Zurich, Switzerland.
"It was tight and close right up until the end. I made three silly errors when I had three match balls.
"I think in the end I just managed to keep my nerves and managed to stay as positive as I could," she said.
Sivasangari will meet Nouran Gohar of Egypt in the final.
