Malaysia overcome Hong Kong to reach squash World Women's Team Championship semis

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian women's squash team produced a stunning performance to outplay Hong Kong 3-0 to reach the semi-finals of the World Women's Team Championships in Cairo on Wednesday (Dec 14).

World No. 33 Aifa Azman gave Malaysia a flying start when she defeated Chan Sin Yuk 11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 12-10 in 33 minutes.

Boosted by the first point, Malaysia's third player and world No. 80 Chan Yiwen secured a 11-1, 7-11, 11-0, 10-12, 11-6 win over Tong Tsz Wing in 42 minutes to give Malaysia an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Rachel Arnold completed a fine day for Malaysia when she won the dead rubber against Lee Ka Yi 11-6, 6-11, 11-7 in 26 minutes to make it 3-0.

Hong Kong had denied Malaysia glory by securing a 2-1 win in the final of the Asian Team Championships in Cheongjun, South Korea last month.

Malaysia play top seeds Egypt in the last four clash on Thursday night (Dec 15).
