Injured Nicol pulls out of British Open

PETALING JAYA: It has just gone from bad to worse for national squash queen Nicol David this season.

The world No. 9 has been forced to skip the British Open in Hull from May 15-20 due to injury.

Nicol, who last competed at the El Gouna International Squash Open in Egypt two weeks ago, is still recovering from hamstring and adductor strains.

Nicol, a five-time British Open champion, has never missed the tournament since 2001.

The injury also ended Nicol’s hopes of making her fifth straight appearance in the season-ending PSA World Series Finals in Dubai from June 5-9.

Only the top eight in the Race To Dubai standings after the British Open will qualify but Nicol currently sits 10th.

It has been a poor season as a struggling Nicol also lost in the first round of the Windy City Open in February and failed to defend her Commonwealth Games title in the Gold Coast last month.
