Delia makes main draw of squash world champs

PETALING JAYA: Delia Arnold bounced back from an opening set defeat to qualify for the main draw of the Women’s World Championship.

The national No. 3 was in her element as she beat France’s Coline Aumard 10-12, 11-6, 11-9, 13-11 in the third qualifying round at the Wadi Degla Squash Club in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Delia, however, was not pleased with her game.

“It’s good to get into the main draw but I’m not really happy with the way I played against Coline. It was not my best game,” said Delia.

“The match was too close and I need to improve to boost my chances of progressing in the main draw.”

While Delia managed to join world No. 1 Nicol David and world No. 7 Low Wee Wern in the tournament proper, 18-year-olds Vanessa Raj and Rachel Arnold failed to make the grade.

The duo were beaten by higher-ranked opponents in the second qualifying round on Saturday.
