Chen Jie lifts gloom in shooting camp by reaching final

PETALING JAYA: National rifle shooter Gan Chen Jie has qualified for the Asian Games women’s 50m rifle three positions final at the Aichi Prefectural Shooting Range on Saturday (Sept 26).

In the qualification, she finished eighth with a score of 587, taking the final qualifying spot.

The top-eight final is scheduled at 12pm. 

Chen Jie is the first Malaysian shooter to reach the final at the Japan Asiad after others failed to make the cut earlier in their respective events.

China’s Han Jiayu topped the field with with 594 points, while her compatriot Zhang Liyuan was second with 591. India’s Tilotamma Sen came in third with 590 points.

Other Malaysians - Alia Husna Budruddin (583) and Nur Suryani Taibi (576) - finished 19th and 33rd respectively in the qualification. 

In the team event, Malaysia were seventh with a score of 1,746 points. China took the gold with a score of 1,773 while India bagged silver (1,763) and Kazakhstan (1,754) completed the podium at third.
