Joseph turns focus to worlds after Asiad near-miss

NATIONAL skeet shooter Joseph Lee Joon Kit will take aim at the World Championships in Qatar this November after ending his Asian Games campaign without any regrets.

The 29-year-old finished 13th out of 46 athletes with a score of 116 points during the qualifying round in Nagoya, Japan.

Only the top eight shooters qualify for the final, and Joseph was agonisingly close – just two points away from securing a spot.

“I will be heading to the world championships next and hope to fight for a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games,” said Joseph.

Joseph is expected to undergo an overseas training camp, likely a two-week stint, under his long-time coach, Jeff Gan Kong Leong, to strengthen his bid to make the Olympics.

As for the Asiad, Joseph said: “I rate my performance seven out of 10. I had a bad first day of competition, but I showed improvement in the last two days.”

“Overall, I learnt to manage my emotions and mental pressure in this big event.”
