S. Korean couple to coach shooters for Thai SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) have announced plans to hire coaches from South Korea, Park Cheol-wan (rifle) and Kong Hyun-ah (pistol) starting next year as preparation for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

NSAM secretary Jasni Shaari said the husband and wife coaches had led the South Korean Olympic squad and their presence would help in strengthening the performance as well as the mentality of the country’s shooters.

“We have contacted the two coaches and now they are in the administrative process to come here and the proposal was agreed during the National Sports Council (NSC) meeting,” said Jasni.

“There may be more procedures to go through but we generally agreed.

“With professional coaches, I hope there will be improvements.

“In this condition, we hope that there will be an improvement in terms of the achievement of the country’s shooters.”

Jasni said the presence of the two coaches was also in an effort to help in terms of psychology among national shooters who seem to be lacking in the area.

“If we ask shooters who have succeeded in major competitions, of course they will tell us about mental preparations,” he said.

“Usually their best shooters already know when to win, but that feeling is not there from our shooters.

“Sometimes a lot of success in shooting is due to mental preparations.

“Many shooters went to the Olympics and when I asked them if they were under pressure, nervous, unease.

“This is not the result of lack of training but a lack of mental preparation.” — Bernama
