PETALING JAYA: Trust the old hand Bibiana Ng (pic) to deliver again in the SEA Games shooting competition.

The 42-year-old, who has been with the police force since 2002, will be taking part in her 10th SEA Games outing this year, and aims to win the 10m air pistol event in the Games from Nov 30 to Dec 11.

Having made her Games debut in Jakarta 1997, Bibiana has won a total of four gold medals – three at the 2001 Kuala Lumpur Games and one in Manila in 2005.

“I last won a gold at the Manila SEA Games and hopefully, I can repeat that by winning the 10m air pistol,” said Bibiana.

Bibiana is certainly on the right track to bring glory for the nation again. She bagged the 10m air pistol mixed team with Abdul Hadi Abd Malek at the Selangor Shootings Championships and silver in the 25m sport pistol.

She also won two golds in the 25m sport pistol and 10m air pistol team events in the recently concluded South-East Asia Shooting Championships (Seasa) in Jakarta, Indonesia. But Bibiana knows she needs to double up her work as she has yet to win an individual 10m air pistol event this year.

“I have won medals, but no golds in this SEA Games event yet, I still need to improve my preparation,” said Bibiana, who won a bronze in the 10m air pistol at the last SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Although age is catching up, Bibiana refuses to call it quits as she is confident that she can keep on going for many years to come.

“When you like something, you don’t want to stop. My body and mind are in tune, and it’s telling me to continue,” she said.

“Even at my age, I’m still looking to improve myself as a shooter.

The National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM) confirmed yesterday that Bibiana and six others – Joseline Cheah (women’s 10m air pistol); Siau Zianyi (men’s 10m air pistol); Jantan Hintu (men’s precision pistol); and Salzuriana Zubir, Yusliana Mohd Yusof, Azeera Abd Halim (women’s precision pistol) are going to the SEA Games under Category A after a successful appeal to the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).

Other shooters under Category A are Lutfi Othman, Shahera Rahim Raja and Nur Suryani Taibi (10m air rifle); Johnathan Wong (10m air pistol) and Bernard Yeoh (trap).

However, Mohd Ezuan Nasir Khan (men’s 10m air rifle); Charles Chen, Ong Chee Kheng (men’s trap) would remain in Category B as they have not won any medals in international tournaments this year.

All expenses are paid for athletes under Category A, but those under Category B have to fund their trip but will be reimbursed if they win at least a silver medal.
