PATIENCE was the key for karate exponent C. Shahmalarani as she kicked her way to her first Asian Games gold.

Her heart was thumping, but the 27-year-old handled the weight of expectation superbly to beat Hong Kong’s Tsang Yee Ting in the women’s kumite below 50kg final at the Toyohashi Gymnasium yesterday.
