PETALING JAYA: Tan Cheong Min bagged a bronze in the women's nanquan and nandao combined event to become a two-time Asian Games medallist at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall today (Sept 22).
The 28-year-old, who was the contigent's flag bearer during the opening ceremony, finished the sword routine in the afternoon in sixth place with 9.663 points but still managed to end up on the podium, thanks to a strong performance in the nanquan discipline in the morning.
Cheong Min had the second highest score of 9.726 points in the morning and the combined aggregate of 19.389 points gave her the bronze.
Uzbekistan's Darya Latisheva took silver instead with a total aggregate of 19.413 points while China, as expected, claimed the gold with 19.569.
It is the second time Cheong Min finished on the Asian Games podium. The Melaka-born exponent earned silver in her debut in the 2022 Hangzhou edition.
