PETALING JAYA: H. Sureeya Sankar made it double joy for Malaysia as he joined K. Thevendran on the Asian Games podium, winning bronze in the men's kumite below 60kg category at Toyohashi Gymnasium in Aichi.
The 24-year-old Sureeya recovered from the disappointment of losing 1-7 to Qatar's Abdelrahman Abdelhamid in the semi-final to score a big 10-2 win over Vietnam's Chu Van Duc 10-2 and deliver Malaysia's second medal at the Asian Games on Sunday (Sept 20).
K. Thevendran delivered the first medal for Malaysia contingent at the Asian Games after picking up the bronze in the men's kumite below 55kg category earlier.
