PETALING JAYA: Amir Daniel Abdul Majeed scored a historic first for Malaysia in judo after winning the men's below 81kg category at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Aug 1 (Saturday).
The 21-year-old became the first Malaysian judoka to claim Commonwealth Games gold in the sport after a stunning 10-0 win over South African Timothy Meuwsen.
Amir managed to land a waza-ari at the crucial moment to claim the biggest win of his judo career.
Amir advanced to the final by beating Australian Keishin Ochi 1-0 in the semi-finals.
The reigning SEA Games champion moved to a heavier weight category after claiming bronze in the below 73kg category in his Games debut in Birmingham four years ago.
It was Malaysia's eighth gold medal in Glasgow.
