Shot putter Jonah claims silver in Kazakhstan with new national record

PETALING JAYA: National shot putter Jonah Chang Rigan broke his own national record once again after throwing a distance of 19.12m at the Qosanov Memorial in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Tuesday (June 30).

The 23-year-old Jonah also became the first Malaysian to throw further than 19m, which earned him a silver medal finish in Kazakhstan.

The Sarawakian erased his previous national record of 18.81m, which he set recently at the Asian Throwing Championships in May.

Competing at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze tournament, Jonah finished behind Georgia’s Giorgi Mujaridze, who threw 19.99m, while home athlete Ivan Ivanov came in third with 18.67m.
