PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Canoe Association (Masca) have initiated a fundraising drive to help national canoeist Siti Nurul Masyitah Elias, who is fighting for her life after she was hit by a drunk driver in Johor yesterday.

MCA posted the appeal on their Facebook account requesting for help for 22-year-old Masyitah, who is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at Columbia Hospital in Iskandar Puteri for her horrific injuries.

Masyitah was on a motorcycle when she was hit from behind by a driver who suddenly changed lanes.

Masyitah, who does not come from a well-to-do family, was dragged for 600 metres and pinned under the car due to the impact of the car accident.

"To ease the burdens faced by the family, hopefully we can extend financial assistance with the grace of our hearts.

"The contributions are for the medical expenses and treatment," said the MCA posting on their Facebook account.

According to Masca president Raja Shahrul Azremel Raja Sahar, Masyitah went for a surgery to fix her broken pelvis and shoulders earlier.

However, she might need to go for more surgeries after this.

"She need to go for plastic surgery to patch the skin on her back as a result of being dragged 600 metres.

"I was told the surgery to fix the broken pelvis and shoulders went well. She will remain under sedation though because of her injuries."

Masyitah represented Malaysia in rowing at the Cambodia SEA Games last year and managed to win a bronze in the team event.
